Thirteen Years is Long Enough- Where is Tintin 2?

I probably speak for many, as the anticipation for a long-awaited movie is harder than to bare.

But Jackson and Spielberg’s, The Adventures of Tintin (2011) has taken a full decade to produce a sequel!

This Film is possibly one of my favorite movies of all time. I unfortunately did not see it in the theaters when it was released, but I was able to appreciate the film when it came on home video. Tintin has been in the comic strip culture ever since 1929, becoming one of the most beloved franchises and comic book characters in history. It’s only natural for there to be a follow up to such a delightful, and groundbreaking film.

I will make this brief, and straight to the point, but in all honesty, where is the second installment? Over the years I recall the film being teased or at least rumored that it would come in 2013, or the Holiday season of 2015, and so on. Many people have started to make memes and jokes about the film taking a century to be made. Many people on YouTube are finally realizing the film is a masterpiece and should be followed up with new movies. And, many people are starting to realize, that the film was made over a decade ago. 13 YEARS to be precise.

I am not joking when I say this. I was in middle school when that film was released, that’s how much time has passed since the first installment. I used to get merchandise on the Tintin Shop UK website, and I remember the beta designs of that site. Now the site is very high tech and professional looking. That’s how much time has passed!

I have heard over the course of the years that the second movie was going to be directed by Jackson, and it was going to be about The Seven Crystal Balls and Prisoners of the Sun, or it was going to be, Black Island or Calculus Affair. From what IMDB has recorded, the film was called Prisoners of the Sun, which meant they were going with that two book installment. But that still doesn’t cover up the real mystery! WILL Tintin and Haddock go to find the treasure at the bottom of the Unicorn, like THEY teased at the end of the movie?!

Most likely, no. They won’t. Every time I see the ending to that film now, I always just get up and say that it’s been 13 years. Haddock would’ve died from dehydration by this point.

To my surprise, there actually might BE a new Tintin movie! It is not by the 2011 crew, but I did hear news about a French studio was working on a live action Tintin movie, and just last year, 2022, Tintin was getting a video game series! So the desire for Tintin content is present and still lingers, but still no theatrical movie. I know Tintin is not popular or well known, here in the States, but there must be some people that share my sentiment.

I actually discovered the Tintin series thanks to the movie being made. Before then I had no idea who the heck Tintin was or anything. After that I became a diehard fan, collected the comics, watched the cartoon series and really cherished it with all my heart.

I feel for all my friends in the Tintin universe, ( haven't really met any, I’m just stating in general) because I see the memes, I see the frustration and I see news articles of people starting to ask the same question.. I will probably be 50 by the time the next movie comes out, if it ever comes out. But I am just expressing a friendly question, a question that has lingered in my head for years. Where is the next Tintin movie? When will it finally be released?

These are all questions that need to be solved. If you have any info or to share your thoughts, please do!
